I work with ((a lot)) of different photographers as a makeup artist, normally I’m sweating and in comfy clothes behind the scene. Behind the camera are where I LOVE to be. I get so much joy from making other people see themselves through my eyes to help show them their beauty from a different perspective. I love showing and telling others how important and powerful they can be. But for myself, not so much. I clam up. I compare myself to others. I don’t know what to do with my body. Every time I’ve heard someone say “wow you’re nicer than you look” comes to my head and I can’t control my RBF and I become an awkward turtle most times.
This shoot was with a brand-new photographer I hadn’t met and was my first male photographer I had worked with. I saw Mike Kessel’s work from my friend Kelsey Livengood and knew he would be a perfect fit for the vision I wanted of this “emo girl” shoot. He made me feel so confident and comfortable. I got the photos back and immediately fell back in love with myself and felt like all the nerves were for nothing.
Began posting a couple and a magazine reached out to me encouraging me to submit my photos, with some encouragement from Derek and so many amazing friends, I sent in a few of my favorites…. first time being published in a print magazine and I got a 6 page spot in @baremags!
